The Department of Risk Management and Insurance at Georgia State University cordially invites you to attend the 52nd Actuarial Research Conference (ARC 2017), taking place July 26–July 29, 2017 in Atlanta.
Housed in one of the largest business schools in the United States, the Department of Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) is one of the finest centers of risk management education and research in the world. One of the inaugural schools to be named a Society of Actuaries Center of Actuarial Excellence, the department has a long history of producing high-caliber graduates in actuarial science and our over 2,300 alumni occupy key positions in the insurance industry and beyond. GSU offers programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels in actuarial science, including two highly innovative dual master degrees combining actuarial science with financial engineering ( MAS/MRM) or predictive analytics ( MAS/MSA).
Given our legacy and orientation, we are extremely proud to host the 52nd ARC with the theme “Actuarial Research at the Crossroads: Transcending Disciplines.” Increasing amounts of data, global trends in climate, interest rates at or below the zero bound, changing regulatory frameworks, etc. make the actuarial profession evermore challenging. Meeting these challenges—and turning them into opportunities—calls on actuarial education and research to expand the actuarial toolkit and the scope of methods to answer pressing research questions. We hope ARC 2017 will be a venue for researchers and practitioners interested in these latest developments to exchange ideas and learn from each other.
About the Department of Risk Management and Insurance at Georgia State University
Beyond our actuarial programs, the RMI department boasts an impressive record of accomplished actuarial scholars that have served on its faculty, including Bob Batten, Sam Cox, Floyd Harper, Shaun Wang, and Eli Zubay, just to name a few. Building on this legacy, GSU faculty continue to produce cutting-edge actuarial research. Given the department’s broad risk orientation, we particularly foster cross-disciplinary research that combines actuarial questions or methodology with elements from economics, finance, and statistics.

The social program includes a dinner at the Georgia Aquarium—the largest aquarium in the western
