At the Lectern
It is with a great sense of pride, a certain degree of nervousness, and a lot of humility that I volunteered for and accepted the position of editor of Expanding Horizons. The editor is a member of the Education and Research (E&R) Council, so I must also thank Yvonne Chueh for inviting me to run for a seat on the council, and also thank the council for their willingness to entrust me with this responsibility. I must also thank Jeff Beckley, the outgoing editor, for his outstanding stewardship of the newsletter. I am indebted to Jeff for bringing me up to speed on many of the idiosyncrasies of the editor’s role and for reaching out to several of his contacts to help with this May 2018 issue of Expanding Horizons. In addition, I want to thank the authors who have contributed to the content of this issue of our newsletter.
A large part of the editor’s job is to solicit interesting and pertinent articles from section members and others. As we will soon start planning for the October 2018 issue of Expanding Horizons, I must take this opportunity to encourage you, our readers, to send us articles on any aspect of actuarial education and actuarial research. In addition, we would welcome letters and other comments directed at specific articles that have appeared in a recently published issue. Although Expanding Horizons is not a peer-reviewed scholarly publication, all articles are screened for relevance to the section membership. Please feel free to send articles to me at cramsay@unl.edu.
