Acknowledgment Letter
Learn about acknowledgment letters, which are sent out to confirm a successful exam registration.
Overview
After your exam registration has been received and processed successfully with the SOA, you will receive an acknowledgment letter sent to your primary email on file. This document includes your master customer ID, name, candidate number, exam location, and the name of the exam.
The acknowledgment letter serves as:
- a receipt of successful exam registration (all exams)
- a ticket of admission to test centers (paper/pencil exams only)
An example of an acknowledgment letter can be found below.
Master Customer Identification Number (MCID)
The Master Customer Identification Number (MCID) is your unique identifier within the SOA's system. Your MCID is referenced whenever you purchase and take an exam, sign up for a webcast, or register for an event.
Candidate Number
Your acknowledgment letter contains your assigned candidate number for the exam. This is your unique identifier for the specific exam you registered for.
The candidate number is different for each exam registration.
Exam Center
For paper/pencil exams, the letter will include your exam center name and exam center number in addition to your candidate number.
Role in the Exam Process
The acknowledgment letter plays a different role in the rest of the exam process, depending on if it is for a computer-based testing (CBT) or paper/pencil exam.
CBT Exams
The candidate number from your acknowledgment letter is used to schedule exam appointments with Prometric. It will be uploaded/activated at Prometric approximately 1 hour after successfully registering.
It is unnecessary to bring the acknowledgment letter with you to the Prometric Testing Center. The required documentation to be allowed entrance at Prometric Testing centers are the identification requirements.
Paper/Pencil Exams
Your acknowledgment letter serves as your ticket of admission. It should be printed and used for admittance into the exam center, along with proper valid identification.
Your candidate number is used for identification purposes and needs to be written on both scantron answer sheets and the front cover of the exam book that you are using.
You may use your smart phone to show the emailed ticket of admission to the exam supervisor; however, it is the candidate’s responsibility to recall their candidate number to put it on the examination since cell phones are to be turned off in the exam room.
