Guidelines for Requesting Funding from the SOA Research Institute’s Emerging Issues Research Pool
2024 Emerging Issues Research Pool
The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Research Institute’s Research Executive Committee (REC) has established a pool of special funding called the Emerging Issues Research Pool. The goal of this special funding is to support emerging topics in established practice areas and encourage the development of research projects that have a strong impact on the actuarial profession. Examples may include topics such as new or emerging regulations or changes in risk assessment methods. For 2024, the Emerging Issues Research Pool has been budgeted at $80,000.
Eligible applicants to the pool include both researchers/organizations independent of the SOA as well as SOA entities (research committees, sections, etc.) that do not otherwise have access to funds through one of the Strategic Research Programs.
Applications are welcome at any time throughout the year.
The REC also periodically issues Requests for Proposals (RFP) for pool funding on emerging topics of interest to the Committee. Proposed topics outside of those listed in these periodic RFPs will also be considered.
All applications should include a proposal as well as a completed Application form (see link below).
Applications may consider full support from the Pool, or a sharing of cost between the pool, an applicant, and/or other sponsor(s).
