Society of Actuaries Research Institute Announces Winning Teams of 2023 Student Research Case Study Challenge

Schaumburg, IL, May 15, 2023 – The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Research Institute announced the winners of its 2023 Student Research Case Study Challenge. Students from universities and colleges around the world showcased their skills in this team competition. The SOA Research Institute awarded a team from Arizona State University with first place; and two student teams from the University of New South Wales received second and third place.

Teams of two to five students researched a case study on social insurance. The winning teams’ universities receive a grant: $5,000 USD for first place; $3,000 USD for second place; and $2,000 USD for third place. Additionally, students from these three winning teams each received $500.

Valani Global helped sponsor this year’s case study challenge, which gives actuarial students the opportunity to highlight their knowledge and math skills, while also applying their creativity, collaboration and presentation abilities.
