Society of Actuaries Announces Two Actuarial Programs as Centers of Actuarial Excellence

August 29, 2024, Chicago, IL – The Society of Actuaries (SOA) has designated the actuarial programs at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, and Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN, as SOA Centers of Actuarial Excellence (CAE). The SOA launched the CAE designation in 2009, recognizing universities around the world for their strong actuarial programs.

“The SOA congratulates Arizona State and Middle Tennessee State on achieving CAE status,” stated Jessica Morse, SOA CAE Evaluation Committee Chairperson. “The programs at these universities prepare students for actuarial careers and help them become business leaders that meet global challenges with effective risk solutions.”

Actuarial university programs with the CAE designation must meet eight main criteria, along with other specific requirements, to qualify. The criteria encompass appropriate degree and curriculum offerings, graduate count, faculty composition, quality of graduates, appropriate integration with other areas of study, connection to industry, and research and professional involvement. Universities retain the CAE designation for five years, after which renewal is subject to compliance with the CAE criteria. Learn more about the SOA’s CAE program.

With the addition of Arizona State University and Middle Tennessee State University, there are now 42 CAE universities spanning four continents, with 22 in the U.S., five in Australia, eight in Canada, two in China, two in Hong Kong, one in Singapore, and two in the United Kingdom.
