Society of Actuaries Announces Course Details and Improved Source Materials of the FSA Pathway Enhancements

Chicago, Illinois, May 20, 2025—The Society of Actuaries (SOA), the world’s largest actuarial professional organization, announces details on the evolution of the Fellowship pathway. Today the SOA provided the course details and improved source materials available for candidates pursuing the FSA designation.

Over the past two years, the SOA has shared information on the planned enhancements of the FSA which aim to provide a better candidate learning experience, improved flexibility and greater global relevancy. As previously noted, there is no impact on the length of time to complete the designation.

“The SOA remains steadfast in its dedication to maintaining the rigor and integrity of the globally-recognized FSA designation,” said SOA President and Chair Amanda Hug, FSA, MAAA, MBA. “The SOA’s high standards and tradition of excellence are rooted in our commitment to the membership, candidates and actuarial profession.”

The SOA provided more information on courses and the improved source materials for a flexible pathway. These include:

  • Final learning objectives, outcomes, and source materials for all courses
  • Enhanced syllabi with additional guidance
  • Course strategy guides that provide a clear overview of how to successfully approach the course
  • Guided examples with solutions that apply concepts
  • More focused study materials with concise, clear direction and new content
  • Relevant past exam questions that align with current course objectives.

Other enhancements previously announced include a flexible pathway with the option to focus on a single practice area or combine courses from different areas for a more personalized approach. Beginning in 2026, high-demand courses will be offered up to three times a year. The SOA will implement a faster grading timeframe of four weeks from the end of the testing period. International candidates will have the opportunity to learn U.S. or Canadian regulatory material or instead focus on global markets. Additionally, the SOA will provide more exam feedback with granular score reports for those who do not pass and an option for personalized feedback for a fee for those close to passing.
