The Guiding Principles of the Retirement Section Council
The Guiding Principles of the Retirement Section Council
- The basic services the council provides to members of the Retirement Section are (a) facilitating continuing education and the development of the practice of actuaries specializing in retirement income programs and related areas, and (b) providing opportunities for Retirement Section members to present and exchange ideas. We provide these services through:
- Research
- Seminars, webcasts, on-line university courses
- Spring SOA meeting programs and events
- Retirement Forum and Retirement Section News content
- Articles in the Actuary, monographs, and other publications, as appropriate
- Other appropriate means
- Retirement Section members are engaged in providing services in many related fields affecting the retirement area. Our services will support these interests of our members, as well as their core interests in the pension area.
- We will take steps to maximize the value our members receive for their dues.
- In furtherance of the objective in 3., we will consider the following when evaluating new projects:
- Members' professional and business needs (both perceived and real)
- Capacity, resources and strategic position of the SOA that are relevant to decisions
- Relevance to our mission
- Identification of synergies with other organizations, both inside and outside the SOA, to meet our valued commitment to members.
- In providing services to our members, we will follow the Code of Professional Conduct in all our decisions.
- We make ourselves aware of the BOD's current expectations that are relevant to the performance of our duties and will carry out our responsibility to bring new issues affecting our members to Board attention. Where appropriate, we will also transmit further information regarding these issues and, if appropriate, suggestions of a number of potential solutions to these issues.
