In Memory of Robin Brooks Leckie, FSA 1931-2018
Robin Brooks Leckie, FSA, FCIA, a past president of the SOA, passed away quietly earlier this month. Leckie is survived by his wife Rosemary, and his children Barbara, Stephen, Ted and Ann.
Leckie grew up in Vancouver and graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1953. After his graduation he worked at Manulife Financial, where he remained until he retired in 1988 as senior vice president and chief actuary.
Leckie was president of the SOA from 1980 until 1981. He was also president of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries 1975-1976.
Leckie felt equally at home in Vancouver and in Toronto; he loved the Seawall and the Boardwalk, Stanley Park and the parks of The Beach, the Coastal mountains, and the peace and beauty of Muskoka. He instilled in his children a love of learning and a love of nature and the thrill of a win in their competitive games together. His career took him to 36 countries and when travelling was often asked for directions from the natives—and usually could answer correctly.
Leckie always said he had had the most wonderful life and wouldn't change a thing.
A service of celebration of Robin Leckie’s life will be held on July 30 at 2 p.m. at Rosedale United Church in Toronto. Donations to Cedarhurst Dementia Care Home would be appreciated.
