In Memory of Steven G Crotteau

Steven Gordon Crotteau, ASA 2009 passed away on July 8, 2021 at home in Hoboken, New Jersey at the age of 44. Steve was born in Hudson, OH where he enjoyed all things sports, including competitive tennis, collecting coins and baseball cards, and camping and canoeing with family and friends. He was a loyal fan of all of his hometown Cleveland sports teams. After graduating with distinction from Hudson High School in 1995, Steve matriculated to Penn State University where he joined the brotherhood of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity. A mathematically inclined student, Steve graduated with distinction with a BS in Actuarial Science in 1999. Over a 20-year career, he held actuarial and financial roles at Prudential Financial, A.M. Best, Swiss Re, Accenture, and New York Life.
Steve was a gentle soul with a kind spirit. He loved his family and friends deeply. Steve was also a fierce and persistent fighter who battled the disease of alcoholism. A dedicated and faithful participant in AA, Steve celebrated over 20 years of sobriety in his later life. Steve maintained his physical health and focus with ritual 5-mile walks and regular trips to the gym in his beloved Hoboken.
Steve is survived by his parents, Linda Crotteau and Richard Crotteau, his sister Debbie Crotteau Umbach, her husband Heath, his niece Taylor, and nephew Logan. He is also survived by his sister Danielle Crotteau Serna, her husband Victor, and their children Maya, Nina, and Emilio.
