SOA Board Approves New Extension to FSA Transition Deadline (June 16, 2022)
The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Board of Directors voted at their June 11-12, 2022 meeting to approve a transition extension for certain Fellow of the SOA (FSA) candidates. The extension applies to Fellowship candidates who attained the ASA designation by July 1, 2018. These candidates are exempt from passing the Predictive Analytics exam if they complete all requirements for FSA (including the Fellowship Admissions Course) prior to the new deadline of January 1, 2024. This is a one-year extension in addition to the previously communicated six-month extension announced in December of 2020. The Board approved this one-year extension in response to continuing challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular closures of some exam centers in early 2022. This transition extension will allow for two more FSA exam sessions (fall 2022 and spring 2023) before the final deadline. The SOA does not anticipate making any further extensions.

Prometric Testing Center Global Policies
To help ensure the protection of employees and test takers and to remain in compliance with governmental mandates and recommendations from the CDC, WHO, and Johns Hopkins University, safety practices will be enacted throughout the testing process and will be compliant with local government guidelines.
Please Note: China has specific policies in place based on local guidelines. If you are taking an exam in China, please click here. For candidates who are planning to travel to another state, province, or country to take your examination, please review our travel advisory notice here.
Prometric Testing Center Capacity
Prometric continues to increase capacity at test centers in keeping with locally applicable government policies. The SOA is considered an essential client which will give our candidates some priority where possible for available test center seats. While Prometric is reopening centers and working to provide as many seats as possible given the constraints, it is likely that there will be shortages of available seats in some locations. Some candidates may not be able to find a seat at the Prometric test center they would prefer and may need to travel to the next closest available test center.
The SOA is committed to securing seats for our candidates. However, if you are having trouble finding a seat, here are some options to help you:
- Continue to check the Prometric website, availability changes frequently.
- Complete a Fall 2022 Prometric Seat Capacity Wufoo form for: Fall 2022 FSA, ERM, and EA exams.
- Capacity issues are not typically something that can be handled quickly. Please know that we are working to find seats for each candidate that contacts us. There is a hierarchy at work.
- Initial focus are exam candidates that do not have an appointment,
- then those with an appointment at a Prometric Testing center, but outside of their preferred location,
- and lastly, exam candidates that request a different appointment time.
- Please continue studying for your exam, so you are prepared when a seat is found.
Temporary Refund Policy Extended
A temporary policy is in place due to situations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic for exams administered January – December 2022. If after your registration there are no available appointments at Prometric locations within 150 miles of your location or you are uncomfortable taking the exam due to COVID-19, this temporary policy applies to transfers and refunds, if applicable.
