A History of Excellence
The Society of Actuaries is the largest professional society for actuaries in the world. With 31,000 members and 36,000 candidates (those working towards becoming an actuary) in more than 100 countries, our network covers the world.
For over a century, through a constantly shifting world, we’ve advanced actuaries as leaders in measuring and managing risk to improve financial outcomes for individuals, organizations, and the public. That’s taken the form of cutting-edge research, continuing education, and the fostering of a community of peers supporting each other.
The SOA is striving to continually adapt to help members and candidates keep their skills relevant and marketable. This allows their skills to transfer wherever their career takes them. And because our members achieve a high level of marketability with employers globally, you might be surprised where membership will take you.
Diversity Makes Us Stronger
As we work to advance the profession, we realize that a diverse membership is a strong membership. We believe that diverse perspectives make the actuarial profession more valuable. That’s why our goal is for anyone from any background to have an equitable opportunity to enter the field and succeed.
To achieve that goal, we’re working to provide support to underrepresented students Including scholarship and exam fee reimbursement programs. Click here to learn more about our efforts.
Respect from Rigor
Our actuaries are respected throughout the business world because of the best-in-class education program that we’ve developed over time.
Our process entails exams, special projects, e-learning modules, and some college coursework even counts towards the requirements. There are many colleges and universities that offer actuarial science programs, a full list is available here. However, there is no actuarial degree requirement. People from a variety of math-focused majors pursue and achieve the goal of becoming an actuary.
