Election Message:
I am extremely honored to stand as an endorsed nominee for President-Elect – especially at such an exciting and pivotal time in our profession’s history. I believe that my professional and volunteer experience has provided me the skills, relationships, perspective, and judgment necessary to lead the SOA.
For those of you who don’t know me, I have spent most of my professional career at a global Life and Health Reinsurance company, initially in traditional actuarial, product development, and experience analysis roles, and more recently as an executive leading global functions and initiatives. I was RGA’s first head of global research and data analytics, I launched and served as the first CEO of RGAX, our innovation and InsurTech accelerator, and I am currently a member of RGA’s executive committee serving as Chief of Staff to the CEO.
As a volunteer with the SOA, in addition to my time on the board of directors, I have also served as Chair of the Product Development Section Council and the InsurTech Task Force, and as a member of the Research Executive Committee, the Technology Section Council, The Committee on Life Insurance Research, and the Responsible Use of Data Advisory Council.
These professional and volunteer experiences have given me a broad-based, global view of the challenges and opportunities facing the actuarial profession and a front-row seat to the evolving needs and expectations of the SOA’s stakeholders.
The good news is that the SOA is operating from a position of strength. We have a trusted brand, a highly engaged membership, and the financial flexibility to make necessary investments for the future. Despite this, there are warning signs that the SOA staff and the board of directors have been tracking for many years including decreasing rates of section membership and a decline in the number of first-time exam takers. Combined with this are external forces which will impact the future of the SOA, including the growing relevance of data science, revolutions in how professional education and credentials are delivered, and increasing globalization. If these trends are left unaddressed, it will become increasingly difficult for the SOA to deliver on our core purpose.
Recognizing the urgency of the issues facing the SOA, the board has undertaken an in-depth analysis of our strategic positioning in the context of these and other trends and developed an ambitious long-term growth strategy – work that I was proud to help usher forward during my time on the board. This strategy prioritizes important objectives and lays out initiatives that will build on our rich history while also modernizing the SOA to enhance the relevance of our skills, credentials, and research to our stakeholders and expand the engagement opportunities for our community of members.
I am very optimistic about the future of the SOA and excited about the opportunity to play a role in leading us forward together. Thank you for taking the time to review my qualifications and considering me as you cast your vote.
