Is it the chicken or the egg? Is it because I’ve spent the majority of my career as a public servant, it’s shaped me to be a big proponent of serving others – or is it the other way around? Either way, I fundamentally believe in being a servant leader – that as a leader, we serve those we lead. This belief carries through in my run for the SOA Board. My duties, were I to be a SOA Board member, is to help represent YOU as a member of the actuarial organization.
With that in mind, it is important for me to hear what you, as members, would like to see for the profession and the organization. To execute on this, I’m going on a virtual listening tour with actuaries from throughout my career journey. These chats will be recorded and posted on my LinkedIn page in the days to come. After the conclusion of this listening tour, but before the conclusion of the voting period, I will gather the themes I’ve heard and, from that, share the initiatives I plan to focus on, if I were to serve you on the SOA Board.
I hope you tune in to these short videos and, alongside the previous communications the SOA has sent out on my behalf, I earn your vote!
Meanwhile, if you have any thoughts you’d like to share with me, I welcome them! (My contact information can be found on the Actuarial Directory and on LinkedIn.)
Let’s work together to keep actuarial science a top profession and the SOA an esteemed organization!

Message Two
In my last message, I shared with you my commitment to servant leadership and the importance of listening to our community when crafting initiatives. I was embarking on a virtual listening tour that is now well underway. For those who have been following along via my LinkedIn posts, I hope you’ve been able to also learn a little about me while getting a glimpse of my quarter-of-a-century actuarial journey! For those who haven’t gotten the chance to check out the vignettes, I invite you to my LinkedIn page to take a listen.
Here is some of what I’ve heard on the tour so far:
- International Strategy – strengthen global partnerships; market directly to our non-US members; offer more localized content
- Member Engagement – optimize structures to prevent volunteer burnout; collaborate with local actuarial groups for broader reach
- Credentialing process – introduce shorter exams so candidates have the option to progress in smaller increments; provide region-specific material to better equip actuaries to practice in their own market
More is forthcoming as I wrap up my listening tour so please tune in to my final video that will be posted before the voting deadline. In it, I’ll be summarizing my tour and presenting initiatives I’d work on if I were to be on the Board!
I also keep my metaphorical door open if you’d like to share any of your thoughts with me. (My contact information can be found on LinkedIn and the Actuarial Directory.) Let’s work together to keep actuarial science a top profession and the SOA an esteemed organization!
