Introduction
I am an actuary with rich and diverse experience, deep care for our community and the future of the profession, and a strong passion for giving back and paying forward. As a sitting board member, I am asking for your support to bring continuity and consistency to the next three years to drive the ongoing strategic programs to fruition.
Working at a management consulting firm gave me the unique opportunity to examine the value proposition of actuaries to our internal and external customers, and the skill gaps that we need to fill to become influential business leaders. The SOA is in the position to lead the actuarial profession to new highs by focusing on the following three areas.
- Enhance the appeal of actuarial profession and expand the candidate pipeline to a diverse population to sustain the long-term growth of the profession.
- Double down on international strategies to capture the growth from emerging market and create social goods.
- Modernize actuarial education, both on the exam pathway and professional development, to embrace emerging technological trends and build in leadership skills to help members achieve their highest professional aspirations.

Brief Description of Current Work
At McKinsey, I am an Associate Partner leading the Capital and Balance Sheet services for global insurance clients utilizing advanced risk and data analytics toolsets. I also lead enterprise strategy projects for various types of clients across the insurance industry.

Ying has over 20 years of experience in the Life insurance space focusing on transformation, risk management, and capital management. At McKinsey, Ying is leading the Capital and Balance Sheet services for global insurance clients. She also leads enterprise strategy projects for various clients in the insurance industry. Before joining McKinsey, she held leadership roles at Ernst & Young LLP, Resolution Life, and Sun Life Financial.
Ying is a long-term volunteer for the Society of Actuaries (SOA), as a leader in section activities and PD programs, then on the SOA board. She is a founding board member for Abacus Actuaries, a non-profit organization promoting workplace inclusion and elevating Asian actuaries. She is a Program Committee member for the ISC-Group US, one of the largest global communities for women leaders in insurance.

Additional Info
In her spare time, Ying enjoys theater, classical music, and the outdoors. She is an avid cook and proud of her family's recipe for Beijing-style noodle sauce (京味打卤面). Besides her actuarial and risk credentials, Ying earned her leadership coaching certificate from Northwestern University in 2021.
