2024 DEI Champion Award Recipients
David Daly, ASA, MAAA, CERA
Associate Actuary, Allianz Life
David is integral in raising awareness about diversity in the actuarial profession. David serves as President of the Sexuality and Gender Alliance of Actuaries (SAGGA) and is an active member of the Pride employee resource group (ERG) with Allianz. David also volunteers with the SOA’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Research Group and encourages inclusivity in the actuarial community. For example, David has discussed DEI issues with Gamma Iota Sigma, Sigma Chapter, at Temple University and leads conversations with SAGAA and Pride ERGs at various companies. David’s impressive commitment includes representing SAGAA on the Casualty Actuarial Society/Society of Actuaries Joint Committee for Equality, Inclusion and Diversity.
David Guede, ASA, FCA
Health Actuary, Deloitte Consulting
David is a leader who actively promotes diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the actuarial community. He has launched two chapters of the International Associations of Black Actuaries (IABA): one in Toronto and another in Chicago. While leading these chapters, David hosted dozens of events, including the 2023 Annual Meeting of the IABA in Chicago. Along the way, he has developed many close contacts, especially within the SOA. David organized the IABA’s outreach at SOA ImpACT Conferences, and in 2024, he contributed a compelling article about DEI to The Actuary. David’s dedication makes him an inspirational SOA volunteer and DEI leader.
Kristen Marie Long, FSA, MAAA
Director, Actuary, Colonial Life Financial Planning & Analysis, Unum
Kristen has led the Young Professional Advisory Committee this past year. She is also Vice President of the National Association of Women Actuaries (NAWA) and serves as a liaison between NAWA and the SOA. Her liaison work, which includes coordinating joint events, sharing resources and advocating for women in the profession, has been crucial in promoting diversity and inclusion in the field. With remarkable initiative and foresight, Kristen also created the SOA’s Emerging Leaders Summit (aka, the Next Generation Leaders Summit), and she lends her insights to enhance the SOA’s outreach to younger actuaries. Kristen’s efforts foster an inclusive community, leaving a lasting impact on the profession.
