Election Message:
Compared with my last time on the board (2012-15) the profession faces much bigger challenges. At the university we are seeing significant migration of students from actuarial science to data science. To students, data science appears to offer a more attractive career and doesn’t require years of exams. We urgently need to address the value proposition of the actuarial career vs. data science. Second, we also need to re-think education and credentialing. Too many promising students are avoiding the profession because of the exams.
