Message One
Ten years after stepping down from the board I am running again because times are more challenging for our profession. I see it in both of my jobs: as an academic I see smart students choosing data science over actuarial science, and as an employer it is not easy to find candidates with the right combination of technical, consulting and entrepreneurship abilities. We urgently need to address the value proposition of the actuarial career. Second, we also need to re-think education and credentialing. Too many promising students are avoiding the profession because of the exams. I have a history of achievement with the SOA and look forward to a new challenge.
Message Two
These are challenging times for the profession and we need leadership with ideas and experience. I offer both of these. I am a small business owner running a consulting firm, and I am also an academic teaching university students and performing actuarial research. These experiences expose me to many issues and a number of perspectives and potential solutions. But whoever you support, it is important that Society members exercise their vote.
